I am doing this because Teal is the color that symbolizes Ovarian Cancer.
Yes, today I am going to spread the awareness of Ovarian Cancer in this blog post.
I was invited to this blogger event last Friday to get to know more about Ovarian Cancer.
I was glad to attend as I gained something out from this event.
I asked Huiping along to accompany me as well. :)
About Ovarian Cancer
- 5th most common cancer among Singaporean women.
- Each year, there are 290 cases and about 100 women die from it.
- In Singapore, 1 in 80 women faces Ovarian Cancer in their lifetime.
Signs and Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer
- Bloated feeling in the abdomen
- Abdominal distension
- Abdominal discomfort
- Backache or ache in the legs
- Change of bowel habits
- Urinary complaints
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- Loss of weight
I was sad to hear that there is currently no test for this cancer, unlike breast cancer and cervical cancer where you have tests for it.
The only way to know if one has ovarian cancer is to recognize the signs and symptoms yourself.
Ovarian cancer can attack women as early as in their 20s.
By diagnosing and testing it at an early stage can increase survival rates and patients are able to lead normal lives after that.
Therefore, be alert and consult a doctor immediately if you experience any of the above symptoms.
